Set in the valley of the North Saskatchewan River Shekinah offers some outstanding opportunities to explore the waters. Whether it's your first time or you are a seasoned pro there are options for you to get out and paddle to your heart's content. For the absolute beginner you can take the canoes onto the pond. An excellent, sheltered, safe place to learn the basics and fine tune your technique! Once you feel comfortable we have 4 popular options for you out on the river:

  • Sandbar picnic: Approximately 1km from Shekinah you can paddle down to the prominent, established sandbar and have some quality beach time. Approximately 30 - 45mins paddle time total.
  • Reddekop Roundabout: Head up the channel created by Reddekop island and then enjoy the current and scenery as you round the island and head downstream. Complete the loop by making your way back up the channel to your starting point. 4.5 km and about 1.5 hours.
  • Petrofka Bridge - Shekinah: It's all downstream as you get dropped off at the bridge for a casual, meandering paddle down the river. Navigate you way past islands and through channels as you enjoy the North Sakatchewan River valley. 11 km and 2.5 - 3 hours
  • Shekinah - Fort Carlton: If it's adventure you want then this is the route for you. Depart Shekinah and do not expect to see much in terms of human development. The natural world at its best this trip offers you a longer float and some real opportunities to witness the natural world. 22 km and 5-6 hours

Shekinah has a total of 16 canoes that are available to rent. Drop-off or pick can be arranged for the canoes for a fee, but it is your responsibilty to get yourselves to or from the pick up points. Not sure how to do this? Not to worry, give us a call and we'll help you get the most out of your trip!
